BALTIMORE -- The Maryland Port Administration is preparing for a significant increase in the number of cruise trips departing from Baltimore.
Mindy Mizell Has Details Executive director James White said there are 79 trips planned in 2009, up from 27 this year and 28 last year.
Until this year, only Royal Caribbean Cruises operated from Baltimore. This year, Norwegian Cruise Line began calling at the port, and Celebrity Cruises and Carnival Cruise Lines will start service next year. White said the cruises are not a significant revenue source for Baltimore's port but are important for economic development in the area.
